Why is NBC developing a transport strategy?

A Northern Beaches transport strategy will address how we connect and move to and beyond a growing Northern Beaches. The Strategy will ensure the various modes of transport are aligned to support land use, connected journeys and efficient networks. Previously, the former three councils had separate plans for walking, bike riding, public transport advocacy and road safety.  An integrated strategy will provide the Northern Beaches Council with an overarching framework to guide planning, investment and operations for the next 20 years. This will set the direction for all current and future use of integrated landuse; walking and cycling; public transport; roads and traffic; and parking.

What is the purpose of the Move Northern Beaches Transport Discussion Paper?

The purpose of this discussion paper is to spark conversation and gather ideas to feed into a transport strategy and future related transport plans.

What topics are covered in the Northern Beaches Transport Discussion Paper?

Five topics have been considered, these are: Integrating Transport and Landuse; Walking and Cycling; Public and Community Transport; Roads and Traffic; and Parking. As you read each topic, consider how you get around using transport in aspects of work and leisure time.

Who is being consulted in this process?

We are engaging with a broad range of community members through a number of communication channels, including newspaper, social media and online.  We’re reaching out to a vast number of stakeholders including local community groups, disability groups, children and young people, older people, our business community and resident groups. We’re also engaging with our  partners in the NSW State Government, industry and peak bodies to ensure we are working towards common goals for our community.

How will my feedback on the transport discussion paper be used?

All community feedback will be considered as part of the development of the strategy – Move – Northern Beaches Transport Strategy 2038.

We will provide a detailed community engagement report to inform you about what we have heard and how it’s been incorporated into the draft strategy.
